I’m not confident of betting on any football match today. They all look dead iffy to me.
You wonder if the same Everton team will turn up today that played my lot last weekend and if they did they’d be very hard to beat.
Everton like coming to St James’s Park and have won there on the last two visits but Rafa has his lot playing really well at home and if they win today it’ll be the 5th on the bounce.
Everton can only beat teams below them in the league this season, all 10 wins so far against sides in the bottom half of the league so that fits.
Newcastle just struggle to beat the Blues though and have lost 5 of the last 6 prem meetings.
Like I say though, Rafa has the home team bang on blob and they have only let in 1 goal in their last 4 home games, winning the lot.
The home defence is what’s keeping them up this season and only 4 teams have a better defensive record, Liverpool, City, Sours and Chelsea.
Everton are also defending well at the moment and playing well away. If they keep Newcastle out today it’ll be 3 clean sheets on the bounce.
This is a game I thought Ron would use for his Pick 5 comp on the Forum because it’s really tight to call, as all the games are this afternoon.
My feeling is that Newcastle are the more consistent team this season and so I’ll suggest a home win but with very few goals in it.
Both teams like to lump the ball into the box and Matt Richie has had 202 crosses played in for Newcastle, only Lucas Digne producing more 204.
Plenty for the centre backs to be busy with then.
One stat caught my eye and that is that no other prem fixture has seen more penalties awarded that this one and it could well be a pen separates them again today.
I’m having a silly bet given those last 2 stats and that is that both teams get 5 corners or more and that someone gets a penalty which is 14/1 on Betfair.
Not a Saturday for doing much if anything but it’s an interest.
NEWCASTLE TO WIN @ 9/5
5+ CORNERS EACH AND A PENALTY SCORED @ 14/1
