Catching My Eye 17/08/20

Today’s meetings at both Catterick and Windsor have left me without a single race to produce Ratings for and so we are concentrating our efforts today purely on those horses that the markets and other factors indicate are “eye-catchers”. Catterick has seen a sustained move for ALTALUNE (1-15), and having opened 13/8 is now a rock solid even money favourite. The yard had a juvenile land a gamble yesterday and this would appear another that has been placed to succeed.

Two non-runners in the 1-45pm event mean the market has had to be adjusted accordingly but, REDROSEZORRO, more than any other, has shortened one heck of a lot, 13/2 > 10/3 favourite.

The only other runner here for money at all is THE BIG HOUSE (10/1 > 13/2), and unsurprisingly both are previous winners over course and distance. This very much a track that lends itself to such types.

No non-runners in the 2-20pm, division 2 of this wonderful Class 5 event. That makes the move for TADAAWOL all the more interesting though as he’s another CD winner and the opening 10/1 has long gone, now trading 7/1. The front pair on the tissue look solid but the rest of this field are drifting like barges.

Four non-runners in the 2-50pm leave me feeling much of the market movement is certainly adjustments but the money still comes for SAMARA BAY, advised in the Post Racing subscribed members Newsletters this morning as having crashed overnight from 12/1 > 15/2….now just 5/1.

In the 3-20pm race, the second favourite as was, has been withdrawn and as this is a Class 6 with most of the participants, pants, I’ll not go bothering myself looking for what might be an adjustment to take the withdrawn runner into account, or whether someone has had a couple of bob e.w. on a 10/1 shot and seen it come in to 15/2….like EXCESSABLE.

A five runner race at 3-50pm has seen the morning favourite, ICE STATION ZEBRA, strengthen….7/4 > 11/8….nothing is being backed to beat it.

The weather is causing a bit of mayhem today and we’ve another four come out of this one at 4-20pm. I’d suggest two are being backed in addition to the market adjusting their prices and SAMBUCCA SPIRIT (10/3 > 9/4), and CAPTAIN CORCORAN (16/1 > 9/1), would be two to possibly work with. Neither though, has previous winning form here and for that reason I’d be inclined to watch, as opposed to opening the wallet.

NOONDAY GUN was backed overnight, and that was again advised to Post Racing subscribed members in their morning Newsletter….7/1 > 4/1….still attracting support, it now trades 7/2.

The amateur riders race at 5-20pm has seen three horse punted: THORNTOUN CARE – 20/1 > 8/1, LORD TORRANAGA – 25/1 > 8/1 and BE PERFECT – 28/1 > 10/1.

The last two named were advised in that morning Newsletter but the gamble taking place on the Roger Fell trained runner would indicate the yard might well be “at it” today, as he also trains TADAAWOL, that one being punted at 2-20pm.

WINDSOR

The one for money in the opening event at 3-55 is FIVETHOUSANDTOONE, who was advised in that morning Newsletter as having been punted from 2/1 > 6/4….now just 6/5 in a 13 runner juvenile race, that will be run on slow ground. This horse looks very much like it is “expected”.

INVEIGLE and CHATTRI are two being very well backed to beat the current tissue favourite, LONGLAI (E > 13/8)….INVEIGLE – 3/1 > 15/8 and CHATTRI – 14/7 > 7/1. I might dutch that pair and lay LONGLAI….if I feel the ground is as described (yeah, right!).

In my youth I was always told, “always back the top weight in a Nursery”. Well, those two at the top of the weights are also heading the market ENDERMAN 6/4, IRIS DANCER 2/1 (opened 3/1), and it is 9/1 bar that pair. It would appear a dutch secures a profit.

I advised Post Racing subscribed members this morning that ALWAATN SOUND had been moving overnight (7/2 > 2/1)….now trading 13/8….it looks “off”. It is 13/2 bar that one, although one is being punted to place, WE’RE REUNITED, 25/1 > 11/1….first time cheekpieces.

The 6-00pm Class 4 sees one horse now attracting money….AL DAWODIYA….6/1 > 4/1 and again, nothing else is attracting attention so I’d be expecting a 20/80 to bring home a bit of profit.

Only the favourite, ICE SPRITE, is shortening at 6-30pm….7/4 > 6/5 and that looks a Placepot banker.

I’m only interested in watching the 7-00 as DOMINO DARLING attempts to live up to the billing I gave it pre-season. I think she could be a superstar but returning from injury tonight, I’d not be betting the odds on.

KATTANI was the OMM advised in my morning Newsletter, 12/1 > 7/1….now just 11/2 with not a lot happening in the market to suggest I should add another to a dutch so, a 20/80 the Appleby runner will suffice.

They finish off with a Class 6 in which several are being tickled: ACT OF MAGIC – 14/1 > 8/1, AMPNEY RED – 25/1 > 12/1, with the one I mentioned this morning, SHERWOOD FORESTER (33/1 > 12/1), now easing slightly, 14/1.
