Ayr and Bath Eyecatchers 24/08/20

My subscribed members over at Post Racing know I do not produce Ratings for Bath any longer as the quality of racing there (usually), is horrendous and, the ground can usually be relied up on to make horses hooves rattle.

Today though, it is on the easy side there which means they’ve had a ton of rain because so high up is the racecourse, they cannot get water up there to enable irrigation of that track.

Today’s card there is choc full of moose, the entire nine race card made up of Class 5 and Class 6 fields, a total of 65 Class 6 horses turning up for….what? Below you have details of what I’ve seen since my morning Newsletter went out to Post Racing subscribed members.

AYR is not a lot better, just one race better than Class 5, on a 10 race card, that starts at 1-10pm and goes on until 6-00pm. A long day for some up there!

My only Rated race of the day is the 5-25pm and so, I’ve a long time to wait for my major play of the day.

We’ll start with the Scottish card and in the opening race I’m seeing the market telling us they only want one of two horses….HARSWELL PRINCE is now 9/4 having been backed from an opening 4/1 > 2/1 last night, as was advised to my subscribed members last night. This morning I advised BOBBY’S ROSE was 5/1 > 3/1 and that runner has now eased half a point to 7/2.

Everything else is drifting and I’ll dutch that pair to make a little profit.

Since the markets awoke a little earlier, the 1-40pm is now starting to jiggle about a bit. The morning favourite AMNIATRIX, is drifting – 6/4 > 5/2, as the money really does come for SOARING STAR – 11/4 > 13/8….and it is still coming. This horse runs today, for the second time following a wind operation.

I’m still mindful that Ed Walker has sent AMNIATRIX on one heck of a round trip for debut, and that Oisin Murphy is going up to Ayr to ride it.

I’ll dutch the two, to make a profit.

The 2-10pm is a Class 5 and very competitive. The overnight move for CHOOKIE DUNEDIN – 13/2 > 4/1 – has now dried up and the horse is out to 6/1, as money now comes for the Jim Goldie trained BE PROUD – 13/2 > 9/2. It’s not a race I’m keen to get involved in as several are being tickled in the market, but not quite qualifying as a “mover”….a “for instance” being ERICH BLOCH, opened 13/2, backed in to 9/2, then out again to 5/1 and now around 11/2.

A no bet race for me.

The first leg of a Class 6 next, the 2-40 looking horrendous on paper. I advised my subscribed members last night that SCOTS SONNET had been supported from 20/1 > 15/2. The only other runner now attracting money is INDCUTIVE – 4/1 > 3/1 favourite. I’ll play a small stake dutch to see if the money is being placed by the wise….but Class 6 “gambles” most often come to nought.

Nothing is attracting the punters attention in the second division of that race and so I’ll move swiftly on to the 3-40pm, which sees three (a dutch then), moving….KEY SPIRIT 6/1 > 7/2, LITTLE TED 7/1 > 11/2 and FOUR KINGDOMS 14/1 > 8/1. Again, it’s a race you bet to beans because these are horses that might light up a gallop one day, the next not even fancy getting up off the hay.

Joy of joys, another Class 6 at 4-15pm….I’m feeling really spoilt today.

The good thing is, nothing is attracting punters cash so far and I can safely say it’ll see none of mine, either.

I’ll ignore the 4-50pm because we have a 1/5 favourite, 6/1 bar and that really is a no play race if ever I have seen one.

Now we come to the best race of the day at 5-25pm. My figures say EAGLE COURT, the market agrees 11/2 > 7/2 last night, now 3/1. The horse is well drawn, O’Meara has a superb strike rate with 3-y-o’s at this track My second highest rated horse last night, GLOBAL SPIRIT, has been pulled out and that moves ULSHAW BRIDGE into my top three. He has been backed in from 10/1 > 7/1 since my morning Newsletter went out and I’m hopeful my dutch brings home plenty of Dunmow Flitch.

They conclude this meeting with an Apprentice Handicap and two horses are being punted. TALK NOW 11/4 > 15/8, and EL JEFE 8/1 > 7/2.

It’s Class 6 so the decision as to how to work this is yours alone. Me? I’ll be knocking up the pasta, pancetta, arabiatta and mushrooms, with garlic bread.

I only bet here if a family member has been kidnapped and the phone call comes in from those kidnappers, telling me it’s bet, or I get a body part in the post.

They kick the meeting off tonight with a Class 6 Nursery and if that call comes out, I’ll just give them my full postal address. How could anyone bet on such a race? I’ll apologise to the family member when they are released.

Now….and it’s entirely up to you….two horses are being smashed up in the betting at 4-10pm. CAPTAIN CLARET – 3/1 > 6/4, and ZEIMAAM – 4/1 > 6/4. If that phone calls comes after the first race, I’ll dutch that pair to make sure they come home with both earlobes.

Do I expect to draw? It’s Class 5 Maiden, with nearly half the field making debut….I expect diddly.

Another Class 6 at 4-40pm and I’m seeing a horse that pulled up on the flat last time out, being backed from 10/1 > 5/1. The horse is 0-12 all runs to date so what the heck is all that about? How can MY LADY CLAIRE be punted, unless a family members is put on the phone to plead for me to bet? I’m afraid the phone would be on my deaf ear.

Now, I’m dutching two in the 5-15PM.

HLATIAN is being mullahed in the market right now, 3/1 > 15/8….wears cheekpieces first time today and runs in this Class for the first time today, having run all five previous races at Class 4. His recent Newbury run was decent, third of 15 to BILL THE BUTCHER, beaten just over a length. If he cannot win this then he’ll be seen in the ring soon enough. Straight win.

Class 6 again at 5-50pm and I’ve seen into the future. At 5-50pm I’ll be adding salt to the water I’ll be adding my pasta to. The pancetta is being cut, the mushrooms diced….and I’ll not even be watching this.

Nothing is being backed so I guess punters everywhere will be doing something else.

The 6-20pm is Class 5, a host of unexposed 3-y-o’s with the one older horse trading the 50/1 rag.

Market says one of PASSIONAL or BRING THE MONEY wins this, everything else is drifting, whilst this pair shorten. Currently 6/4 and 2/1 respectively, I’ll play a small dutch.

It is “ditto” come 6-50pm, only this time the older horses have shunned the races and leave it to those unexposed 3-y-o’s again. The market is again suggesting only one of two wins this, CRYSTAL PEGASUS or MOOMBA. The evens and 2/1 currently available produces a profit from the dutch so, I’ll pop a small one on.

Magic, they’ve divided another Class 6 to send us on our way.

At 7-20pm I mentioned to my subscribed Post Racing members last night that BARTIMAEUS has been backed from 25/1 > 10/1 and I can advise it has drifted out slightly, now 12/1.

Nothing else has attracted a penny piece, it’s as big a minger of a race as I’ve seen in a while, with the perennial failure that is MARIE’S GEM, trading favourite and having been beaten 26 lengths last time out, in this Class of race, when going off just 9/4. Not one of Middleham Parks finest hours when they bid for this one….80,000 euros, down the drain.

The last race of the day and, we have a “steamer”….a horse I mean, not the race! It’s bad, but not that bad!

RARE GLAM has been given a big build up in today’s Racing Post and this course and distance winner is now being punted. At the same time though, the handicap debutante, SAIGON SUZI, is 16/1 > 7/1 and this Sir Percy filly ran ok last time out, when nine lengths of the winner at Chepstow, over seven furlongs. They have got this horse a handicap mark in a very Sir Mark Prescott way, all three runs over seven furlongs, now upped to 10 furlongs and every chance that improves her chances of at least placing. I’m very tempted to have a small 20/80.

Hopefully that one race at Ayr I’m serious about today produces what I’m after and we can look forward to working with some better racing tomorrow….Catterick…I like Catterick!
