16/1 > 4/1 winner yesterday!

The markets, allied to my Post Racing handicap figures, are a licence to print money, if you can spot the signs that indicate what is a genuine punt, and one not so “kosher”. Yesterday we had a brilliant time of it, with winners pouring off this page and Shane Rooney’s Galway selections producing a pair of lovely winners from three selections, the other an unlucky second.

Today what I have to work with is dire stuff. The two meetings at Goodwood and Catterick are not great for me personally, sitting here working on those handicaps, Catterick in particular giving us a card the equivalent of beans on toast, marg used instead of butter!

They have a nine race card, seven of which cater for the lowest grade of racing. Thankfully, I only had to produce figures for one there.

Overnight the markets were saying nothing and I’m looking at the first race on the card at Goodwood and simply seeing adjustments following the withdrawal of the third favourite. I’ll simply play my figures to a dutch and pray.

In the 3-0ppm, NEBULOSA, wearing headgear on debut, has been backed from 10/1 > 15/2 and the only other runner for anything….not a mover….is the favourite, TICK TOCH….6/4 > 5/4 > 11/8….a dutch that pair?

I’m seeing the whole field drifting at 3-35pm so I’ll leave that to the needy and greedy.

We have five x 2-y-o’s going to post at 4-05pm for a Nursery and it’s FLIRTY RASCAL 8/1 > 11/2, that seems to be copping for some place money. Not a race I’m interested in playing at all.

Two miles around Goodwood next, for the seven taking part at 4-40pm. Punters are simply uninterested here….me too.

At 5-10pm we have my second rated race of the day and this is a market that has started bouncing. My top rated has been punted from 12/1 > 13/2 and my third best on figures is now 10/1 > 7/1.

Old PETTOCHSIDE has gone missing and even though he loves this track, the market says no….4/1 > 10/1….he quite simply will not have his ground, and will be run off his 11 year old feet.

I’ll cover my top three dutched and leave it at that.

The “money” horse at 5-45pm is MUMTAAZ….7/1 > 5/1….and was the only runner to make my New Edge section in the Post Racing Newsletter earlier today. I’ve gone 20/80.

I love Catterick….usually….but today’s card scares me half to death. TWILIGHT HEIR is strong as favourite in the 1-10pm….6/4 > 6/5 but personally, backing horses that short that have, so far, liked to see another horse in front of them, isn’t my game at all.

Punters want nothing to do with the 1-40pm…and being a punter myself, I move swiftly on to the 2-15pm, which is the second leg of a dire Class 6.

The morning short priced favourite and one other, have been pulled out, the markets have adjusted but as for a mover….nowt.

A Class 5 of 13 runners go to post next and it’s MR STRUTTER being supported….12/1 > 7/1….THE BIG HOUSE another that opened 12/1, now 8/1. It is simply another race I refuse to get involved in. The tissue kicked off with the three 3-y-o’s heading it, which they still do, but all three are easy to back. Just let it happen….we do not NEED to bet.

CORMIER was an OMM I advised my subscribed members of last night and he is very strong at the head of the market at 3-25pm. It is another Class 6, these horses run when they feel like it and nothing could ever be guaranteed from them….but they want nothing to do with anything else here and if the horse arrives with four legs, he’ll most likely win.

Again we have a strong favourite advised to my subscribed members last night….CAPTAIN CORCORAN 4/1 > 5/2 and he bids to do what he did for us last time, and land a gamble. The market seems convinced he’ll do it and I will agree with them.

My only rated race here at 4-30pm and we are now down to six runners as the morning favourite has been taken out and the tissue has simply been adjusted to allow for it. I’m simply now going to dutch my top two rated horses and see if I can make a profit from it.

The 1 mile 6 furlong Class 6 at 5-00pm screams “don’t go near the yellow snow!” The morning second favourite has been taken out, they’ve shortened everything up and I’ll be brewing up when they run this thing.

Another 1 mile 6 furlong travesty of a race, for Amateur riders, concludes the meeting and even if they had allowed spectators in here, they’d be gone long before they mount up.

You only bet on such races because you like a bet and I’ll probably never know what the result of this race was.

It’s poor stuff, but hopefully we can snaffle a little profit from what there is to work with.

Be lucky!
