A lull in racing right now, the quality poor, very small fields, bad ground and my own staking will be low, and I’ll be very selective regarding which races I get involved in myself. No point trying to make a silk purse out of a sow’s ear.
12-10 – Heavy ground and I can tell you, the weather in this area is absolutely foul this morning. Here we have an odds on favourite in a Conditional Jockeys’ Handicap Hurdle and it’s the one that caused a stir recently, BUSHEYPARK, when he landed a proper touch for connections. I’m seeing a move for one that has not seen a racecourse for 638 days, J’AI FROID 13/2 > 7/1 > 6/1 > 13/2 > 11/2….this kind of race is never going to be one that entices me to play.
12-45 – The front two on the tissue, TORN AND FRAYED and the OMM advised in my morning Newsletter are very strong, unlike the other four taking part, who they cannot give away. A 47% profit feels acceptable so I’ll watch the first to gauge the going and make a decision then.
1-15 – Only four going to post and not a race I’ll be playing. The front pair on the tissue are weak as support is coming for REDFORD ROAD 6/1 > 7/2….a race to watch only, unless you have an uncontrollable urge.
1-50 – The OMM advised earlier is still the only one for money here. QUALISMART is being nibbled at 2/1 > 15/8 > 7/4 > 15/8 > 2/1….and he was a winning OMM on debut, looking very good. Think he’ll need to settle better today though, to beat the favourite, which he should do with that experience under his belt. Interesting race.
2-20 – They seem to be throwing these novelty races onto every card right now. I’ve simply no interest in it and will treat it like a Cross Country race at Cheltenham.
2-55 – My only rated race here this afternoon and the money has come for GOOBINATOR 4/1 > 11/4. Rates 6th best on my numbers and adding it to my Dutch returns around 50% profit. A level one kind of stake though.
3-30 – Five runner Bumper to finish. It’s another Twiston-Davies punt going on, SEASON IN THE SUN 3/1 > 9/4….REDFORD ROAD in the 1-15pm race is his other “plunge” horse.
I’ll just watch.
12-20 – A Novices’ Claiming Hurdle with the market telling me it’s one of:
- FALBERTO – 2/1 > 7/4
- GUILDHALL – 13/2 > 5/1
- ELIAS D’OR – 7/1 > 9/1 > 6/1
12-55 – We had a morning OMM, now on the drift, with money seen for CASPERS COURT now, 11/1 > 4/1.
It’s a Class 5 Novices’ Chase so I doubt many will be wanting to be heavily involved here. I’ll dutch my OMM with CASPERS COURT, to pennies as I’d be anything but confident playing here given the results this kind of race has thrown up this week.
1-30 – Two OMMS in this rated race and all the money is for the first named of that duo in the morning Newsletter. I’ll play as suggested.
2-05 – My final Rated race here and only OVER TO SAM of the front five on the morning tissue is weak. I’m seeing a move for the Hobbs horse that sits fourth best on my numbers TRUCKIN AWAY racing second time following a wind-op…7/2 > 11/4
His other runner, my top rated, is drifting and I may make a decision to dutch rated horses 2, 3 & 4.
2-35 – Four runners go to post here and nothing is happening at all in this market. It’s a Beginners’ Chase, not a race for betting.
3-10 – This 12 runner Class 5 Handicap Chase it certainly attracting the attention of some punters, somewhere:
- MR WASHINGTON – 13/8 > 11/8
- KABRIT – 4/1 > 7/2
- DIAMOND ROSE – 10/1 > 13/2
- ORCHARD GROVE – 14/1 > 9/1
If’s and buts about plenty though, even the favourite has to prove he actually stays so I’ll skip this one myself
3-45 – A Mares Bumper. Typically, it’s support for a Nicholls runner GROOVY KIND 4/1 > 3/1 I’m seeing, with everything else drifting. The market might spring a surprise on us yet so best to monitor what goes on between now and then, if you really enjoy betting such races.
Best of luck!
