Everton v West Ham – 17/10/21

This should be a good game as both sides have started the season well. They are 6th and 10th in the league, only separated by 3 points and having a similar goal difference.

West Ham have won 3 of their last 6 games at Goodison and won there 1-0 last season. Strangely, Everton won 1-0 at West Ham. The Hammers will produce a stat breaker if they win again here as they have not won twice at Goodison, in successive seasons, since 1930.

If Everton win, it will be the first time they have ever had more than 16 points after 8 games in a Premier League season.

Having started the season very well, West Ham have gone a little quiet and only won 1 of their last 5 league games whilst Everton have won all 3 home games and if they win today it will be the first time since 1978 they have won the opening 4.

On the road though, the Hammers are doing great. If they stop Everton winning today they’ll have gone 7 on the bounce unbeaten and that’s currently their club record. I expect them to let at least 1 goal in today as they have only managed 2 clean sheets in the last 18 leagues games.

Antonio has been on fire this season and only Mo Salah has a better goals/assists record this season but Townsend seems to have found a new lease of life in a blue shirt because he has scored 5 in 9 for Everton in all competitions, which is the same number of goals he scored for Palace in 79 games.

Manager head to heads are always interesting to me and Benitez definitely has a hoodoo over Moyes, who has only managed to send a team out to beat a Benitez side twice in 15 games. Benitez has also won 8 of the last 9 games against a Moyes team.

I fancy a 1-1 draw but the 5/1 is rubbish so I’ll not put that up.

  • DRAW @ 9/4
  • DRAW AND BTTS @ 10/3
