Pontefract today had me pinging out WhatsApp messages advising the Ratings were effectively unfit for purpose.
They had overwatered the strip from the middle of the track to the far rail….the very rail punters use when applying their draw bias readings. They then had a succession of heavy showers, which rendered that strip of ground useless for racing on.
I watched the first race and wondered why they had fired across the track coming off the bend into the home straight….well, the winner did, anyway!
That is a tactic only employed when the ground on that far rail is slow.
I advised members of what I’d seen and confirmed it after race two….a rated race, which saw the two I’d supported run like they were in mud, whilst the only horse in the race, and bottom rated, that had no previous winning form on the going as was described when I finalised my numbers, came dancing up the nearside rail to win very easily. It was then the “unfit for purpose” message went out.
The last race on that card should have been nailed on for a low drawn horse to win it. The 11 runners went to post and as happens, the draw bias switches 100% and the winner @ 28/1, was drawn 10.
The guys on RacingTV nailed it when they said, “they’d better sort that out before the next meeting!”
If you bet there today using my Ratings, you had no chance and it really was, money down the drain!
We did find success with the only runner there indicated as being “very strong”, WAGGA WAGGA, was successful and Musselburgh has started very well tonight (and you know I love working with that track!), VAL DE TRAVERS a bet I’d discussed with Sean earlier today and “strong” on the tissue, won @ 5/2, from another OMM, SOUND OF IONA, who finished second @ 20/1.
Hopefully that 9-00pm PLAY TO CONSIDER comes good as that will make up for the mess they made of Ponte!
