Only Picnic Enclosure tickets remain for Perth’s Stone of Destiny Raceday on Saturday after all Grandstand places for the final weekend fixture of the 2022 season were snapped up this week.
With glorious sunshine forecast for Saturday, and a bumper 120 entries across seven races prior to final declarations this Thursday, the scene is set for another electric Perth Racecourse atmosphere and afternoon of thrilling racing and entertainment.
Stone of Destiny Raceday (previously Summer Carnival) will further etch Perth Racecourse’s ties with its historical surroundings, nodding to Scone’s royal significance and the iconic piece of sandstone renowned for its role in the coronation ceremonies of Scotland’s medieval monarchs.
On the ultimate weekend before the new school term, families are being offered the chance to ditch shopping centres for the family-friendly atmosphere of Perth Racecourse’s Picnic Enclosure, where under-18s go free with a paying adult. Boasting a range of free activities for children such as a bouncy castle, assault course and surf simulator, alongside access to bookmakers, a big screen and food and drink outlets, it’s the perfect ticket for families who can bring their own picnics and furniture to savour an afternoon of racing.
Those with tickets to the Picnic Enclosure will also be in with the chance of getting kitted out for the new term after Perth Racecourse committed to rewarding one lucky winning family with a voucher to purchase new uniforms for their children – a perfect back-to-school gift for any parent that has left their shopping to the ‘last jump’.
Perth Racecourse CEO Hazel Peplinski said: “There is plenty of hard graft across the whole site in preparation for Saturday’s bumper crowd and we cannot wait to welcome everyone to Perth. This day last year was our first raceday with a sizeable crowd and it was some buzz to feel the atmosphere from the crowd once again. The scene is all set for this Saturday with quality entries across the seven races, music after racing and a vast range of food and beverage to keep everyone happy – including ice-cream vans!”
As a treat for racegoers in the Grandstand Enclosure, Glasgow-based music duo ‘Shaka Loves You’ will make a special appearance, fresh from performing at Glastonbury in June. Following the final race, the pair will entertain guests with their tones which span across funk, soul, disco and hip-hop genres.
