Uncertain times but I fancy a draw

I had an emailing session with Harp and Paul last night about adding bets to any football articles we do and we agreed that right now all that should happen is we write about certain games and say what we think should happen but not say have a bet on it.

If you look at every Prem game last weekend all except 2 games, which Spurs won 4/1 and Everton lost 1-0, finished 2-1, 2-0 or 2-2 and five of the homes sides scored twice.

That’s not usual and why I do not bet before the first month is out.

Liverpool looked like they were playing in divers boots but should have still won. Utd look set for a tough season, Arsenal looked good, City look to have found a striker in Haaland, and Bournemouth sit 3rd in the league having given Villa a slapping.

The most interesting game for me today is between Brighton and Newcastle. Both started with good wins but Newcastle have lost Shelvey for 3 months after his hamstring injury needed surgery.

Graham Potter will no doubt play the same lads that won at Old Trafford last weekend and they are unbeaten in 5 against Newcastle in Prem league home games. Brighton did lose 2-1 at Newcastle in March.

Since Eddie Howe took over at Newcastle, he has transformed them and only Liverpool, Man City and Spurs have got more league points than them in 2022.

It’s the Eddie howe factor that skews the trends from recent years, such as those telling us Newcastle have not won their first 2 league games of a new season since 1997, or the fact they have only won 1 of their first league away games in the last 10 years.

Eddie Howe has a good record against Brighton, too. He has won 5 Prem games against Brighton but Brighton are on a really good run at the moment having lost just 1 of their last 10 league games, winning at Arsenal, Tottenham and Utd. The only side to beat them was City in April.

Brighton are looking at getting 3 wins at home on the bounce since 2019 but it’s also true to say they had the 5th worst home league record last season winning just 5 games. they lost 7 and drew 7.

It smacks of a really tight game and I fancy a score draw, probably 1-1, but I won’t be betting on it.

I’ll be at Anfield on Monday for the 8-00pm game and never do predictions for my own side but I will have a gander at the game between Chelsea and Spurs tomorrow, which should be a proper game.
