We had to wait for our winner from the four for fun yesterday but an easier 10/3 winner we’ll not see this week.
I’m liking Tommie Jakes as a rider. He has had eight rides in the last two weeks, won on two, was runner up on another and anything he has ridden that has been fancied…trading shorter than 4/1, has won, or been placed.
He is having his claim used wisely. Today Nicky Henderson has made sure has got him for GOBLET OF FIRE in the Kempton Apprentice Handicap at 6-00pm….and the money is down 2/1 > 5/4f
I watched the 3-05pm race at Southwell back a few times last night and no doubt about it, the 9/1 shot advised in your four for fun was unlucky.
The Racing Post Race Readers agree, “still plenty to do two furlongs out, short of room over one furlong out, switched right inside final furlong, kept on well final 100 yards, nearest finish, did well in the circumstances”.
Get FALLEN SOLDIER in your trackers, he’ll win a race soon.
SPHERICAL got done a short head and seems to be going backwards. She was considered Royal Ascot material after her win….she ain’t lived up to her billing and I doubt she will.
SEACRUISER definitely needed the debut run and probably another four furlongs, too!
Today’s racing is naff and I point blank refused to go near Hamilton as it’s being run on heavy ground. I stopped producing figures for Bath years ago and the other three meetings today are on all weather surfaces.
Thankfully we have proper racing from tomorrow and I’ll be able to get properly stuck into it all.
For today’s “FOUR FOR FUN” I’ll offer up one from all bar Hamilton….although I did advise subscribed members earlier that JAMINOZ appears fancied in the last on that card.
First up….
• WHITELEY WAY (Bath 3-32)
Me betting at Bath is like finding snow in Hades but I’m intrigued by this one….it’s e.w. or 20/80, whichever you prefer.
Trained by Roger Teal, who has a good record with 3-y-o’s in handicaps at Bath five winners from the 16 he has saddled there. He has booked Jack Mitchell to ride and Jack is 2-4 for Teal, at this track. He also rides DISTAND THUNDER in the 3-02pm race but my guts say this is the one. A good draw in stall five, too.
• MISS DUBAI (Lingfield 2-10)
George Bass drops in for just the one ride here, for a trainer he has a 35% strike rate for at the track. A previous course and distance winner for Denis Coakley, who does well enough at this track with 3-y-o handicappers, 4-22 this one should be competitive in a small field Mickey Mouse event.
• STANLEY SPENCER (Southwell 6-08)
A 3-y-o- in an all aged handicap, and trading favourite….subscribed members know all about 3-y-o’s in all aged handicaps!
Rossa Ryan rides for James Tate, something he has only done at this track five times previously in the last five years…..he won on two of those rides.
Not sure stall 10 has done them any favours but those that have got what looks to be the best draw would be seen chasing sticks given half a chance.
• SUSTAINED (Kempton 9-00)
Hopefully this one pays for the Horlicks. When the better jockeys are still at a track for a 9-00pm race I do take note and see if anything is “off”.
Richard Kingscote stops back to ride this one for the Kubler’s and he was on board the last time this one ran in slightly higher grade. He has ridden here 25 times for the Kubler’s in the last five seasons, winning on six of them….a very decent 24% strike rate.
This is the trainers only runner here tonight and the 3-13 strike rate with 3-y-o handicappers, plus the fact Kingscote stays to ride it, does suggest it is “off” tonight.
All interesting stuff and hopefully a winner or two in there.
Again, do what you like with them and the very best of luck.
See you tomorrow!
